Facebook is hiring!

Previous Next View All

It’s been a rollercoaster year for the biggest global social media network and Forbes-rated fourth most valuable brand in the world. Amid mounting scandals, shifting algorithms and unprecedented user numbers, they’ve been CMO-less since January.

But according to a LinkedIn job post (now expired), they’ve finally opened up the floor for a brand new marketing kingpin to spearhead the operation once again.

Gary Briggs retires

In a fitting exit, Facebook CMO Gary Briggs, publicly hung up his hat through a status update:

Gary is one of very few senior executives to have ever left Facebook. He has been instrumental in the growth of some of Facebook’s most notable innovations, including Facebook Live, ads, and fundamental changes to look and functionality of the site.

The next big marketing brain will be faced with very different challenges - ones that will see them having to navigate their way through some of Facebook’s biggest trials yet, whilst working to boost brand reputation. One of their core tasks will be to maintain Facebook’s relationship with businesses and the public.

What will the ideal candidate look like?

Facebook is looking for someone to “build, manage and inspire its global marketing organization focused on its consumer business and overall company reputation”.

The selected candidate must fit the following criteria:

  • 15+ years of consumer/tech experience – CMO or GM Experience (ideally experience partnering to build a high profile, large-scale consumer technology brand, one reliant on hardware & software innovation)
  • Experience with consumer aesthetic/instinct leading to distinct product positioning
  • Knowledge on how to guide a brand's reputation and experience in crisis management
  • Experience in building, executing and measuring data-driven marketing programs across online and traditional channels
  • Experience in the use of analytics tools and ROI metrics. Ideally a strategic thinker with strong tactical acumen
  • Proven track record delivering creative, integrated consumer demand and education programs (ATL and BTL)
  • Experience managing marketing budgets of US$500 million
  • BA or BS degree in Marketing, Business or related field (ideally an advanced degree)

With 93 applications on LinkedIn alone, it’s safe to say competition is fierce!
