Bigwave staff train to restart a heart

Previous Next View All

In a running theme of British Heart Foundation related activities in the Exeter office, a number of Bigwavers have undertaken CPR training and joined the fight against heart disease.

Trained cardiac professionals took Bigwave staff through the National of Lifesavers programme and shared their own difficult stories. For some of the team, it was a simple refresher course, whilst others gained altogether new insight on how to restart a heart.

Content manager at Bigwave, Beth Markey, was one of the many in attendance at the training. She said:

“CPR training should be a staple in schools and organisations everywhere. You never know when you’ll need to use it.

“The last time I had any first aid training was almost 10 years ago. It’s amazing how quickly it falls out of your head, but the tips given by Joy and her team are the sort that will stick in your head. I certainly can’t see myself forgetting them anytime soon.”

Every year across the UK, there are over 30,000 cardiac arrests outside of the hospital. The survival rate is less than 1 in 10. Bigwave is one of just a few organisations across the country making life-saving a priority – something the British Heart Foundation is working tirelessly to change.
