The tenth annual Bigwave Business Games in Exeter came to a close on Friday 21st, with competing teams battling it out nautical-style in the highly anticipated climax event - bell boat racing.
Legal firm, Michelmores, were crowned the overall victors of the Bigwave Business Games for the second year in a row, with South West Water coming in a close second and also winning the final event. However, the competition throughout the games was incredibly close, with all participating teams putting pedal to the metal in each event, eager to outdo their competitors.
The atmosphere throughout the games proved electric - an energetic mix of competition, networking and spirited entertainment, all enhanced with the heady serotonin boost that only accompanies physical activity. Even the clouds dispersed for the showdown event, making the pints, pizza and splashing of oars all the more enjoyable.
More about the Business Games
The Bigwave Business Games is an annual not-for-profit competition taking place across Exeter and, for the first time this year, Torbay and Plymouth. 28 businesses from across the city put their skills to the test in five diverse events throughout May and June – bowling, touch tennis, clip n’ climb, mini Olympics, pub quiz and, of course, bell-boat racing.
The games are proudly supported by ambassador Olympic runner, Jo Pavey, and raise money for The Exeter Foundation - an organisation which supports charities and projects across the region. Since 2009, the games have raised tens of thousands of pounds.
The Exeter awards ceremony will take place in September where trophies will be awarded for the winner, the best newcomer, the most improved and the fairest players. With the Torquay and Exeter games out of the way, preparation is under way for the brand-new Plymouth games, which will also be taking place in September.
